German WWII Army Officer’s Dagger Set by Gustav Spitzer-This is an untouched example of a handsome army officer’s dagger by a scarce maker. The pommel, and crossguard retain the majority of the original nickel silver finish. The light tone shows off the strong details on the crossguard eagle, and leaf design on the pommel cap. The white celluloid handle is excellent, free from crazing or any cracking. The leather buffer is in place under the crossguard. The pebbled scabbard is also excellent, with a light tone that matches the upper dagger fittings. The blade is excellent. You can see faint factory cross graining throughout the dagger. There is the usual in and out marks but these are light. You can see the Gustav Spitzer lion logo under the crossguard on the reverse of the blade. This comes complete with its original set of hangers, and a silver bullion officer’s knot. The hangers are very good, with the silver and brown flat wire straps being in very good shape. The buckles and slides retain the majority of their toned silver finish. The reverse of the straps has a light brown velvet that is free of moth damage. They are very good. The snap clips have lost their finish and have a bronze tone to them. The silver bullion knot shows fraying from use and age but is overall very good. This knot has been on this dagger forever, this is how we received it. This is a beauty overall, in excellent condition. A complete set.
