German WWII Early S-Marked 98K Matching Bayonet-This is a very cool bayonet. The toned natural steel finish to the hilt and crossguard is excellent. There are waffenamts in place on both the pommel. The mortise functions as it should. The wooden grip plates show wear from being handled, and have a few old nicks, but these are worn, and it gives this a nice vintage look. The two rivets are in place holding the grip plates tightly to the bayonet. The scabbard is a beautiful natural steel finish that matches the above fittings. It does retain some of its bluing. This is a matching set. The scabbard has a serial number S178K. The blade is choice! It retains its bluing. It has the matching serial number S178K on the obverse, and the makers code of 8735/a "735" on the reverse: This is the “secret” code for Gebrüder Heller. This is the official “secret” Waffenamt (WaA) inspection code used by the German army to keep the companies name hidden. Overall, this is near excellent, with a very clean blade. This is a choice example!
