German WWII Gas Mask Can-This is the full ensemble. This can retains 90% of its original army green finish. There are a few rust spots coming through but this is not a distraction. The canvas strap with clip is marked FRN42. The can is marked on the bottom with the letter “D” stamp. This letter D is the abbreviation for the word "dicht", which translates to watertight or leak-proof. The gaskets were added to later gas masks to provide the waterproofing. This mask has a set of extra lenses under the lid. The canvas straps are still in place, and the fittings retain the majority of their gray finish. The mask is produced in heavy duty green rubber. The base of the mask retains its original finish, though it shows some scratches, you can still see the maker mark of btc, and the date 42. The BTC indicates the maker Honsel-Werke AG, Meschede. The canister itself retains all of its gray paint, but this appears to be a repaint. It looks good, but this paint is not original. The lenses on this mask are clear, though have a yellow tint. The green canvas straps show heavy wear. Overall, this set is in near excellent condition!
