German WWII Iron Cross 2nd Class by Anton Schenkls Nachfolger-This is a good looking example of an iron cross 2nd class. The black finish on the iron core is mostly intact on both the obverse and the reverse. There is some lightening from age, but this is hardly noticeable. The silver frame has a very nice tone. The ring of this example is marked “27” for the maker Anton Schenkls Nachfolger of Wein. This comes with a long portion of original ribbon that is clean with bright colors and in excellent condition. This is in very good condition!

History: The German Iron Cross of 1939, awarded during World War II, was a reintroduction of the historic Prussian Iron Cross by Adolf Hitler at the start of the conflict, featuring a swastika in the center and a ribbon incorporating the colors of the TR regime (black, white, and red) instead of the traditional Prussian black and white stripes. This medal was essentially a way to continue the tradition of military valor recognition while aligning it with the new ideology.
