German WWII Iron Cross 2nd Class by Klein & Quenzer-This is a handsome example of an iron cross 2nd class. The obverse of this cross is excellent. The black finish is almost fully intact on the face. The reverse of the cross shows wear to the black core. Please be sure to see the photos. The silver frame has darkened a bit, this is a nice complimentary color to the black body. This is marked on the ring with “65” for the maker Klein & Quenzer of Idar-Oberstein.  The ribbon is original, but it does have some issues. There is a significant tear to the rear portion of ribbon that someone has taped together with scotch tape. Again, please see photos. The ribbon looks very good even with the tear. This would make an excellent display piece, as the obverse of this badge is near excellent. This is priced according to condition.

History: The German Iron Cross of 1939, awarded during World War II, was a reintroduction of the historic Prussian Iron Cross by Adolf Hitler at the start of the conflict, featuring a swastika in the center and a ribbon incorporating the colors of the TR regime (black, white, and red) instead of the traditional Prussian black and white stripes. This medal was essentially a way to continue the tradition of military valor recognition while aligning it with the new ideology.
