German WWII Kriegsmarine Blockade Runner’s Badge with Miniature Stick Pin- Instituted on April 1, 1941, the Blockade Runner badge was the only naval award that was bestowed equally between civilians and men of the Kriegsmarine. After August of 1943, Luftwaffe soldiers in Kriegsmarine military districts were also eligible. It was given in recognition of deeds performed by sailors bringing their ships through the British blockade and safely into port. The design features the bow of a merchant ship snapping several links of a chain. The front of the bow has a large, stylized eagle with swastika. This badge is constructed in zinc, the large eagle is finished in a silver-white hue, while the rest of the badge featured a battle gray finish. The finish on this example is excellent. There is very slight wear to the high points. The reverse features a coke bottle pin and a heavy wire catch that is soldered directly onto the badge. The hinge is a rugged barrel type. An excellent example overall!  It is also nicely marked on the reverse for “Fec. Otto Placzek Berlin /Ausf. A.G. M.u.K  Gablonz".  A gorgeous award! This comes with its miniature version. These mini’s are identical in every way with the exception of the size and having a knurled stickpin instead of a hinged pin. This has great finish and excellent details as well. A choice set.
