German WWII Medical Canteen-The smaller .8 liter capacity M31 canteens were the standard issue canteen. However, field medics and medical personnel were issued a larger one. These larger medical canteens were of identical design to the standard M31 canteens but came with a different harness and shoulder strap setup. Originally the mountain troop and medical canteens were manufactured in aluminum but later as the aluminum became used for other things, the canteens began to be manufactured in steel. This example has the steel body with a steel cup. The canteen body is covered in a brown corduroy. The brown leather body straps are in good condition, except for the bottom buckled strap which is broken. There is a brown canvas carrying strap, with steel fittings. The fittings on this example do have some corrosion and slight rusting.
