German WWII Original Photo of Günther Stein- Günther Stein was born January 5, 1919. He was a Feldwebel (Sergeant) and radio operator (Bordfunker) in the German Luftwaffe during World War II. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on March 26, 1944, while serving with 6./Kampfgeschwader 2. He earned the decoration in recognition of flying 196 combat sorties, which included 164 missions against England (approximately 90 of which were night operations). He survived the war and died on February 21, 2003. This black and white photo has faded, it has a sepia look to it. This photo measures 5 inches (12.7cm) wide and 3 ½ inches (8.89cm) tall. Stein has signed the photo across his chest in blue ink. This card was signed in the 1980’s when it was popular to write to surviving veterans to ask for memorabilia.
