German WWII Police NCO Sword by Hermann Rath-Outstanding example measuring approx. 36 inches (91.44cm) in length. The black ribbed wooden handle along with the zinc police eagle in the grip are both excellent. The nickel silver plating on the pommel and crossguard are a full 98% intact. The brown leather buffer is in place under the crossguard. The untouched scabbard retains the majority of its black enameled paint, it remains a full 98% in place. This is the most desirable of all the makers of police swords, as it has an SS runic proof on the blade. The blade is very nicely marked by the maker Herm.Rat/Solingen/. Just above this is a SS proof mark. Hermann Rath, Waffenfabrik (Weapons factory) was one of only seventeen Solingen firms listed in the 1941 edition of the DRAB as manufacturers of edged weapons. This firm supplied officers’ and NCO swords to both the SS and the Police. This sword includes a correctly tied NCO knot of interwoven black, silver and red flat wire that is excellent, as is the silver bullion ball with a red, white and black eye. I believe this is un-upgradable.
