German WWII Postcard of a Fieseler Storch (Stork)-This is a great black and white postcard of the legendary Fieseler Fi 156 German liaison aircraft used by Germany during the war. Its nickname Storch was derived from the lengthy legs of its main landing gear, which gave the aircraft a similar appearance to that of the long-legged, big-winged bird. This plane was used by the Luftwaffe for aerial reconnaissance, and sometimes (less often) as troop transport. This plane played a large role in Operation Eiche the rescue of Mussolini from the top of the mountain near the Gran Sasso. This postcard is very clean, though someone has written the word STORCH on the lower front of the postcard. It measures 6 inches (15.24cm) long by 4 inches (10.16cm) wide. The reverse is captioned and set up in traditional postcard style. There is a fold mark on the left side, but this is very slight. The card is not bent at all.
