German WWII Postcard of Knight’s Cross Recipient Generaloberst der Flieger Otto Deßloch- This is a Hoffmann studio portrait of Deßloch wearing his knights cross. He was the last Generaloberst of the Luftwaffe. During WWII he provided air support to the Heer Army Group B in the 1940 Battle of France and from 1941 commanded Luftwaffe units on the Eastern Front. Interesting that after Paris was liberated by the Allied forces, Deßloch commanded an air unit that, in retaliation, bombed the city destroying civilian targets and killing 200 French civilians in September of 1944. The attack was carried out on Hitler's personal order. After being an Allied prisoner of war until 1948, Deßloch devoted the rest of his life primarily to equestrian sports. This postcard is in very good, if not near excellent condition. The reverse is set up in traditional postcard style, the space for a note, with the address box to the right side and studio information separating the two halves. We also have a candid photo that was with this postcard that we are including. We are uncertain of the relation, but it was grouped in with the postcard as we received it.
