German WWII Postcard of Knight’s Cross Recipient Staffelkapitän (squadron leader) Herbert Schramm-Schramm was a German Luftwaffe military aviator during World War II, a fighter ace credited with 42 aerial victories claimed in 480 combat missions. He claimed 28 aerial victories on the Eastern Front and further 14 victories over the Western Allies. On December 1st of 1943, intercepting bombers enroute to Cologne, Schramm was killed in action following aerial combat west of Eupen in Belgium by a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter. He bailed out of his Bf 109 G-6 at low altitude and his parachute failed to deploy. He was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and also promoted to Hauptmann. This postcard is a portrait from Hoffman studios. The photo is still in excellent condition with no fading. The reverse of the postcard is set up in the traditional style with room for a note and the address, with the studio information separating the two halves. We are also including what we believe to be a candid photo of Schramm. This is a very interesting little grouping, in very good condition.
