German WWII Red Cross Hewer-This is the iconic example of a DRK Hewer that would be used by medics in the field. The matte nickel silver plated fittings are excellent and retain approx. 95% of the nickel silver finish intact. The obverse of the cross guard bears a stylized oval medallion topped by a DRK style broad winged eagle. The black bakelite grip plates are very good. One side is checkered, and the other side plain, just as they should be. Both sides of this grip are in near excellent condition. The scabbard’s black finish is 90% intact, though there are a few scuffs and a missing spot of finish on the obverse. The matte silver fitting on the tip of the scabbard and on the throat are in very good condition. The polished steel blade has the correct blunted tip, serrated upper edge, and has fullers running most of the length of each side. This blade is in strong, very good condition. It does show slight pitting and spotting but is in very good shape. The thick brown buffer is in place under the crossguard. This has a heavy-duty leather frog that is nicely marked with a letter “B” on the reverse. Again, overall, this is in strong very good condition.
