German WWII Senior Forestry Official’s Cutlass by Eickhorn-An outstanding example in near excellent condition. The brass “D” guard hilt has deep detailed engraving throughout with an exquisite relief of a grouse on the clamshell. The early white colored celluloid grips have a nice patina, and the three acorns and oak leaves are in place on both the obverse and the reverse of the grip plates. This insignia retains the majority of its gold gilt finish. The green velvet buffer is in place under the crossguard. The scabbard is black leather with brass fittings that are all excellent. The nickel silver fittings have a bronze like tone that complements the upper dagger fittings. Please be aware that these fittings are slightly loose to the scabbard. The brass acorn looks excellent. The lower scabbard fitting is nicely embellished with a stag on the obverse. This also remains dent free. The blade is excellent, with a terrific triple engraving. The backstrap is nicely etched. Each side of the blade shows a great hunting motif. This shows a dog hunting foxes, and the other shows running stags. The Eickhorn logo can be seen under the crossguard. This comes with a very nice and desirable green patent leather frog. This is a great example, that is in excellent condition.
