German WWII Signed Photo of Knight’s Cross Winner Elmershaus von Haxthausen-Elmershaus Walter Eberhard von Haxthausen was a highly decorated Kapitänleutnant (Lieutenant Commander) in the Kriegsmarine. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on July 3, 1944, as the Chief of the 2nd Artillery Carrier Fleet (Chef of the 2. Artillerieträger-Flottille). He commanded the minesweeper “R34” in September 1939, served as an officer on the mine searching boat “M7,” and later commanded the mine searching boat “M83.” In June 1943, he was assigned as Chief of the Fleet of the 2nd Artillery Carrier Fleet. His bravery and successful leadership as a convoy leader in the Straits of Dover were recognized in a contemporary press article describing the action leading to his Knight's Cross award. The photo measures 5 inches (12.7cm) tall by 3 ½ inches (8.89cm) wide and has the signature on the reverse. The original envelope is included.
