German WWII Signed Photo of Knights Cross Winner Ernst Biehler- Biehler was born on June 7th,1903 survived the war and died on the 26th of May 1997. He was a highly decorated General in the German Wehrmacht. During WWII, he fought in the battle of France, Operation Barbarossa into Kiev and onto the siege of Leningrad. He spent a lot of time on the Eastern front. Biehler was commander of the 205th Infantry Division in late 1944 and as fortress commandant of Frankfurt an der Oder in early 1945. He won his knights cross on the 9th of May, 45 shortly before Germany surrendered. This was in recognition of his leadership in the defense of Frankfurt an der Oder against the Soviet offensive. Unfortunately, he was captured by Soviet forces on April 28th of ‘45, and remained a prisoner of war until his release on 7 October 1955. This black and white photo measures 6 inches (15.24cm) tall and 4 inches (10.16cm) wide. It sits in a small black plastic contemporary frame. The photo is signed at the bottom by Biehler in black ink. The photo is in very good condition.
