German WWII Signed Photo of Knights Cross Winner Heinrich “Heinz” Terttner- Terttner was a German general who served in the Spanish Civil War, and during World War II. From the start of the war until December 1940, Trettner served as Staff Officer, in the staff of the 7th Paratroop Division until June 1939. He was later appointed Chief of Operations in the Staff of the XI. Paratroop Corps (15 December 1940 to 6 April 1942). Here he took part in the airborne operation on Crete. He was promoted to Chief of Staff of the XI. Paratroop Corps, but on 4 October 1943 was reassigned to head formation and become Commanding Officer of the 4th Parachute Division. This was a command he held until the 3rd of May 1945, when he surrendered to US troops. He won the knights cross for the role he played in planning the successful German airborne assault on Holland in 1940. He won his oak leaves for his successful actions during the Italian campaign. He was taken prisoner by the US on May 3rd 1945 at St Christofero, Italy. POW number B33415. He survived the war and died in 2006. This black and white photo measures 6 inches (15.24cm) tall and 4 inches (10.16cm) wide. It sits in a small black plastic contemporary frame that is slightly larger than the photo. The frame measures 7 ¼ inches (18.415cm) tall and 5 ½ inches (13.97cm) wide. This photo is signed in the lower right corner of the photo. This signed photo was most likely signed in the 1980s.
