Incredible Navy Dagger grouping from U-Boat Sailor on Board the U-153-This was acquired, at some point, from the family of the veteran. He was on board the U-Boat which was involved in the infamous "Laconia Incident". This is an outstanding grouping from Bill's personal collection and is fully documented on pages 888-890 in Volume III of Bill's book series entitled THE STORIES BEHIND THE TREASURE OF WORLD WAR II "The Making of a Collectorholic". The buyer of this grouping will receive a signed and personalized copy of this book. The Navy dagger is a real stunner made by E & F Hörster of Solingen. It's a 2nd model Navy dagger with brass hilt fittings and lightning bolt scabbard, which has one small door dent in the front side of the scabbard in the usual location. The white celluloid grip has one age crack which is hardly noticeable in the lower portion. The fouled anchor blade is in full excellent condition and this comes with its original tied, silver bullion knot. The grouping also has several other items including a few photos of this 31 year old NCO, who was the lead navigator on board this U-Boat. We also got his U-Boat badge which is an unmarked gem. I like them this way. The grouping also contains his Kriegsmarine Wehrpass indicating he joined the service at the age of 19 in 1930. The wehrpass has many entries clearly stating he was attached to the unterseeboot service.
The U-156 was sunk, with the loss of all hands, on March 8th, 1943 on her 5th war patrol. There is also paperwork worth looking at, including a letter to the family and an official death certificate dated July 14th, 1944. This is an outstanding grouping worthy of further research.
