Spectacular Mayor’s Chain for Schönburg-This is a rare and desirable item! It would have been worn by the burgermeister of the the town and also by city council members. When a person left office, it would have been passed down to their successor. It is very ornate and features a shiny silver finish over metal (we think zinc). The finish remains mostly intact overall, with the missing finish relegated to the reverse of the chain and the medallion itself. It has 24 large links. Some have a political style eagle, others have the factory worker (DAF) cogwheel logo, others have the motto Reichsnahrstand and others are just a very ornate design. The large bottom link has the name of the town, Schönburg which is actually the name of a castle above the medieval town of Oberwesel in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The medallion features a profile of Hitler with the script “Der Führer und Reichskanzler Adolf Hitler”. The reverse of the medallion has a swastika and a wreath. Excellent and unique!
