USAAF Leather Crew Member Flight Helmet- U.S. Air Service crews wore a variety of headgear, from these simple leather caps and canvas flight helmets to hard-shell football helmets. After the war, the U.S. military began to standardize Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE), leading to the development of helmets tailored to specific operational needs, climates, and oxygen systems. This is the iconic leather cap that you see in all the old ww2 movies. It is made of a light weight brown leather with the inside being a nice beige brushed leather interior. There is a black tag inside with the number 74. The silver buckles are in place but a chin strap is not in place. This is in very good condition.
