Vintage Welcome Flag for the 28th Infantry Division-The 28th Infantry Division nicknamed the "Keystone Division" and "Iron Division" a rich American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) history, most notably celebrating a historic victory parade in Philadelphia in May 1919 after World War I. This white printed flag measures 54 inches (137.16 cm) wide by 38 inches (96.52 cm) long. It is one sided. It is very clean, and the red printing is still very clear and not faded. This flag was most likely hung in a VFW or Legion Hall during a welcome home event. This is in very good condition, and a terrific collectible, especially if you live in Pennsylvania. The 28th Infantry Division ("Keystone") is a unit of the United States Army National Guard and is the oldest division-sized unit in the Army. Some of the units of the division can trace their lineage to Benjamin Franklin's battalion, The Pennsylvania Associators. It was federalized during World War II, during which it was given the nickname the "Bloody Bucket" division by the German forces due to the shape and color of its red keystone insignia. On 22 July 1944, the division landed in Normandy, seven weeks after the initial D-Day landings and was almost immediately involved in Operation Cobra. What a great piece of history
