Italian Royal Corps of Colonial Troops Tunic for 2nd Lieutenant-This is for a second lieutenant (sottotenete) of the ECTC who was likely serving in Ethiopia or Eritrea. We were informed that this tunic was designed for use by the Italian navy. It is a late war example that was never issued. Similar examples like this were also used in Somalia. There are scallops in the back and the style of the cuffs are what led to these conclusions. There are beautiful badge cloth slip on shoulder boards that are in fantastic condition. The vertical red and green stripes on the sides are traditional regimental colors for several colonial battalions, such as the XV and XXVI Eritrean Battalions or the Cacciatori d’Africa. The crown represents the monarchy, the crossed rifles and horn represent the infantry and the star is the rank. The uniform is khaki cotton in the “sahariana” configuration and in excellent condition. There are four pockets with scalloped flaps. The breast pockets are pleated. There is a five button closure. There are stars on the tips of each side of the collar. There are three sewn ribbon bars, an orange/white/orange ribbon which I believe is some sort of campaign medal, a War Merit Cross and the Commemorative Medal of the War Period (1940-43). The interior is unlined and super clean. This is a size large and in excellent condition!
