WWII era Norwegian Nasjonal Samling Uniform Grouping-This grouping is quite scarce and in overall excellent condition. The Nasjonal Samling (lit. 'National Gathering') was a Norwegian fascist political party active from 1933 to 1945. Think of it as the SA of Norway. It was the only legal party of Norway from 1942 to 1945. It was founded by former Minister of Defense Vidkun Quisling and a group of supporters such as Johan Bernhard Hjort – who led the party's paramilitary wing (Hirden) for a short time before leaving the party in 1937 after various internal conflicts. The party celebrated its founding on 17 May, Norway's national holiday, but was founded on 13 May 1933. Nasjonal Samling was made illegal and disbanded at the end of World War II in Europe, on 8 May 1945. This grouping consists of a tunic, trousers and cap. The tunic is a privately purchased example for the uniformed paramilitary wing of the organization. The tunic is navy blue wool and in excellent condition. It is set up like a wrapper and has a five button closure. All buttons are black bakelite. There are dark blue badge cloth slip on shoulder straps with a red tresse stripe. The rank is “troppfbrer” or troop leader. The left sleeve has a sewn on armband of black cotton with a machine woven sun cross with two swords, the logo of the uniformed paramilitary part of the organization. The interior is fully lined in ribbed black rayon. It is in excellent condition. There is a single pocket on the right side with the tailor tag. This reads NS Riksdepot (Nasjonal Samling Supply Depot) which was the official commercial enterprise and supply department of the NS during the German occupation of Norway from 1941-1945. It was of course located in Oslo. The tunic is a large size. The trousers are produced in the exact same dark navy blue wool as the tunic is. They are excellent as well. These are straight legged and pleated. There is an elasticized strap for the heel. There are buttoned vertical hip pockets, a single rear pocket with a scalloped flap and a watch fob pocket. There is a four button fly with an additional pair of buttons at the waist. There are buttons for suspenders etc. The waist is a size 30 and these are 47” long. Finally, the cap which is a bit out of shape but a hat form/mannequin head brings it back to life. It is produced in a ribbed blue wool. There is a trapezoid shaped, machine woven insignia at the front. There is an ersatz leather chinstrap (it’s very stiff!) and the buttons have anchors on them. The bill is stiff and in fine condition. The interior is fully lined in ribbed off white cotton and there is an ersatz leather sweatband. The cap is size stamped 56. This should be considered very rare and something that is not encountered often!
