WWII German Army “Officer Upgrade” Visor Cap-This cap started life as an “other ranks” example but was upgrade to officer status by the addition of a bullion chincord. We believe that this was done by a collector post war. It was hastily applied as it is stitched on one side and has the original black button on the other. The body is produced in field grey tricot woven wool. It has some wear, some discoloration and a strange blue stain on the left and right top panel (see pics). The top stiffening ring was removed so this has a lot of flexibility and a unique look. The top panel as well as the upper and lower edges of the dark green badge cloth center band are piped in white for infantry personnel. The zinc eagle is missing the finish and has been reapplied on this cap. The cockade and wreath are nickel silver and in fine condition. The visor is black vulkanfibre and has minor crazing and fading. The underside is orange brown finished and crosshatched. The interior is fully lined in orange brown cotton. There is some wear and a few tears plus some discoloration to the interior. The moisture shield is missing but you can see where it was. The size is ink stamped onto the lining, 55. The sweatband is ersatz leather, brown in color and showing wear and discoloration but no tears. The underside of the sweatband is ink stamped with the maker. A sound example overall!
