WWII German Kriegsmarine Destroyer War Badge by S.H.u.Co-This is a handsome example of the Destroyer War Badge. This badge was awarded for 1) participation in three engagements with the enemy; 2) participation in three offensive mine laying operations; 3) 12 operations against the enemy without contact, and under several other possible qualifying conditions. The design was by renowned Berlin artist Paul Casberg. This example has great tone and crisp details! Amazingly (for a badge made of zinc!) The finish is missing on this example, but it has toned to a nice pewter color, with the destroyer and ocean retaining a vast majority of their grey finish. The reverse is finished in the same gray as the destroyer, which is mostly intact. The pin is a horizontal round needle type. The hinge is sheet metal, and the catch is round wire attached to a round plate. With the horizontal pin, you expect to see a stabilizing hook at the top and this is no exception. It is round wire and attached directly to the reverse. This example is produced by S.H.u.Co and it is marked on the reverse by this maker. Overall, a desirable example!
