WWII German Luftwaffe Wehrpaß for Soldier KIA in Leningrad-This Wehrpass is in good condition, with minor wear and discoloration. It is complete with all pages. The soldier was a member of the Luftwaffe who trained as a pilot at the flight school in Uetersen/Holstein starting on 3 October 1939. There are many entries related to this and other services including with the RAD. His name was Herbert Gaitner and he was born 26 June 1916. His photo is correctly riveted to the second page of the book. There are entries in this book that date back to May 1936. He was a member of the ground forces of the Luftwaffe. He arrived in Russia on 5.12.42 and was killed on 30.4.43 while fighting “defensive battles in Leningrad near Oranienbaum. The Oranienbaum Bridgehead (or Pocket) was a 65 km by 25 km fortified enclave on the Gulf of Finland, west of Leningrad. Established in 1941, it was supplied entirely by the Soviet Baltic Fleet. In 1943, this vital foothold served as the covert staging ground for the Red Army's winter offensive. It was an area of extremely heavy fighting. This is a very interesting book!
