WWII Japanese Army Major Tunic and Breeches, Named-This IJA major grouping consists of the Type 98 tunic and breeches. The tunic is olive drab wool, remaining extremely clean and having very minor wear only. There are internal breast pockets with scalloped flaps and smooth, gold buttons. The lower pockets are internal and have straight flaps. There is a five button closure and all buttons are smooth gold metal. The collar tabs are for the Showa 13 (1938) period and feature red badge cloth with two gold tresse strips, a single silver metal star and gold twist rope piping. The interior of this high quality example is fully lined in golden brown rayon that is extremely clean. There are two pockets with scalloped flaps and buttons plus a vertical side pocket on the left side. There is a cotton tag with white cotton stitching on the left side. According to my Google translator, it reads “Kokura”. It is a size small. The breeches are a different shade of olive drab. There is some wear, some fading, a few repairs and areas of tracking. The lower legs are buttoned; all are present but a few have been reattached. There are large hip pockets to go along with a single rear buttoned pocket and a watch fob pocket. There is a large cinch strap in the rear. There is a four button fly with two additional buttons at the waist as well as a metal hook and loop fastener. The waist is a size 30 and these measure 36” in overall length. A scarce set!
