German WWII Photo of Knights Cross Winner Heinrich Schlosser- Schlosser was an Oberleutnant in the Kampfgeschwader 40. This was a unit of the Luftwaffe. As a fighter squadron, equipped with Focke -Wulf Fw 200, Dornier Do 217, Heinkel He 111, Heinkel He 177 and Junkers Ju 88 bombers carried out air raids on assigned targets. The squadron took part in the Battle of Britain, the Battle of the Atlantic, the control of the North Sea convoys, the air war in the Mediterranean, Operation Steinbock and the repulse of the Allied invasion of France. From 1942 onwards it specialized entirely in anti-shipping on the high seas and sank ships from the North Cape to the Mediterranean. Schlosser flew a total of 140 bomber sorties. Awarded after about 80 sorties, primarily against shipping targets near Norway and in the North Atlantic. He proved himself to be a successful pilot, sinking several ships with a total of 55000 GRT.
